One becomes addicted to a particular habit in order to avoid something. It may be to avoid feeling emotions that are painful to you, or to bury disappointments or wounding from your childhood.
You may think of your addictions as demons to be exorcized, but try thinking of them as friends who are acting out because they are feeling uncared for and ignored. If you suffer from addictions – drugs, alcohol, food, sex, internet or whatever – you are probably running away from pain and not nurturing yourself in appropriate ways.

Sit comfortably anywhere: Bring to mind what you consider to be your most troublesome addiction. Now visualize your addiction as another person other than yourself. For instance, if you addiction is to cigarettes, you might see your addiction as a thin, sallow-skinned man who is tense and hunched over.
Enquire the person you have just created how he is feeling and what does he need that he is not getting.
That character will tell you what does he is actually longing for, he might tell you he wants to sit and relax, clear his lungs, or quit racing all the time. After you have had a conversation with your ‘demon’ imagine you are responsible for their care & visualize helping them heal. Give good healing vibrations to him, Think of at least one more way you could help them feel better and stop abusing themselves.
